Open a car with a cell phone - who knew?

Today after my Rotary meeting I witnessed something quite interesting.  One of the members had locked his keys in his car.  He got on his cell phone and called his wife who then clicked on the remote device she had on her key chain, and I'll be darned, it opened his car.  Oh my gosh.

So today's nifty lesson is this.  if your car allows remote key-less entry - i.e. you have a clicker to open the door, then you can do the following. When/if  you lock your keys in the car and you know there is a spare set of keys somewhere near someone you can contact, call them on their cell phone from your cell phone.

Hold your cell phone about a foot from the car door.  Now have the person on the line press the unlock button on the other set of keys, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock.  My friend told me he had tried this once when he was many many miles from home and it worked like a charm.

Who knew.  Now that is super handy information.
